What happened
Following its departure from Sana'a Airport, an An-26 experienced mechanical difficulties during its initial climb. The crew notified air traffic control of these technical complications and decided to perform an emergency landing in an unpopulated area.
During the descent, the aircraft became uncontrollable and struck an abandoned market structure situated in the Al-Hasaba District, approximately 9 km south of the airport. The impact resulted in 10 fatalities, with no survivors reported among the occupants.
Findings
While the aircraft was identified by local authorities as having the registration 420, official records do not indicate that an An-26 is currently registered to operate within Yemen under that specific designation. The primary factor leading to the crash was the loss of aircraft control during the emergency maneuver.
