What happened
During the final approach to Kongolo Airport, an aircraft crashed into residential buildings situated approximately 100 metres before the start of the runway. The flight was operating as part of a humanitarian mission for the French NGO "Solidarités," traveling from Goma with scheduled stops in Bukavu and Kindu.
While the impact occurred in a populated area, there were no fatalities reported among the residents on the ground. However, all 10 people on board the aircraft sustained injuries. According to the terms of the aircraft's leasing agreement, the flight was not permitted to carry passengers.
Findings
No specific technical or operational causes were detailed regarding the impact with the houses, though the crash occurred during the landing phase of the flight.
