What happened

During an arrival at Bhadrapur Airport, an aircraft failed to decelerate sufficiently after touching down on runway 10. The runway, which measures 1,500 metres in length, did not provide enough distance for the plane to come to a complete stop. Consequently, the aircraft exited the runway surface and traveled approximately 170 metres beyond the threshold.

The aircraft eventually came to a halt in a creek situated past the end of the runway, where it struck an embankment. The impact caused significant structural damage, including a bent fuselage and severe damage to the cockpit area.

All 55 people on board were successfully rescued following the incident. Among the occupants, seven individuals sustained injuries, which included the co-pilot.

Findings

  • The aircraft was unable to stop within the available runway length after landing.

Probable cause

The aircraft failed to stop within the remaining runway distance after landing, leading to a runway excursion.
