What happened
The incident began during an attempted departure from a dirt runway characterized by the presence of puddles. As the aircraft progressed 345 meters along the strip, the pilot-in-command initiated rotation, lifting the nose gear off the surface. Approximately 150 meters later, the right main landing gear collided with two cones positioned on the right side of the runway path.
Following this impact, the aircraft veered off the runway surface but managed to become airborne after traveling a total distance of 945 meters. During the initial climb phase, at an altitude of approximately 14 meters and roughly 200 meters into the ascent, the aircraft struck trees. This collision led to an aerodynamic stall, causing the plane to crash into a wooded area. A post-crash fire ensued, which resulted in the destruction of the aircraft. The accident resulted in 39 fatalities and one injury.
Findings
The investigation determined that the crew attempted to perform a takeoff from a runway that was not suitable for operations due to its condition. This maneuver was further complicated by the presence of a tailwind component during the departure attempt.
