What happened
On 4 March 2015, a BAe-ATP, registration PK-DGB, was performing a scheduled cargo operation from Sentani to Wamena Airport under the management of PT. Deraya Air. The flight crew consisted of two pilots, with the Pilot in Command serving as the pilot flying and the First Officer acting as the pilot monitoring.
After departing Sentani at 0524 UTC, the aircraft reached the Jiwika waypoint at an altitude of 10,000 feet. During communications with Wamena Tower, the crew received instructions to utilize runway 33 and follow a specific approach path to the left of the runway. At 0602 UTC, the crew requested permission to proceed to the Pyramid waypoint and descend to 8,000 feet, subsequently entering a holding pattern due to adverse weather conditions.
Around 0613 UTC, a C-130 aircraft on approach reported performing a go-around, and air traffic control directed that aircraft to hold at the Pyramid waypoint as well. At 0619 UTC, the tower reported heavy rain, visibility between 2 and 3 kilometers, and winds from 060 degrees at 6 knots.
Following the holding pattern, the PK-DGB departed the Pyramid waypoint to begin its approach to runway 33. The aircraft descended to 6,500 feet while flying the left downwind leg. During the turning base leg, the pilot identified the runway and continued the approach. At 0620 UTC, the aircraft made contact with the runway, but subsequently veered to the right and skidded. The aircraft eventually re-entered the runway surface approximately 400 meters from the threshold and came to a stop near taxiway Delta at the 800-meter mark.
