What happened
On the morning of the accident, a twin engine airplane departed from Runway 27 at Fort Lauderdale-Executive Airport at 10:14 local time. The flight was operating as a cargo mission destined for Montego Bay, carrying a crew consisting of one pilot and one passenger. The primary objective of the mission was the transport of medical supplies and first aid kits intended for relief efforts following the impact of Hurricane Melissa.
Shortly after takeoff, the pilot executed a right-hand turn and ascended to an altitude of 4,000 feet. During the execution of this maneuver, the aircraft transitioned into an uncontrolled descent. The plane subsequently struck a pond situated within a residential neighborhood in Coral Springs, located approximately 11 km north-northwest of the departure airfield. The impact resulted in the total destruction of the aircraft. There were two fatalities among the occupants, as both the pilot and the passenger were killed in the crash.
