What happened
A twin-engine aircraft, identified as 'Am Djerass', was performing a flight from N'Djamena to Bir Kalait when the accident occurred. The flight was transporting a total of 17 occupants, consisting of two pilots and 15 passengers, which included a delegation from the Presidency of the Chad Republic.
During the short final phase of the approach, the aircraft type struck the ground before reaching the runway threshold. The force of the impact caused the undercarriage to be ripped from the airframe. Following the initial contact, the plane slid across the terrain for approximately 200 metres, eventually coming to a stop in a sandy area. The impact resulted in the separation of all propeller blades and left the aircraft with damage that was considered beyond repair.
Findings
- The primary factor in the accident was that the aircraft was flying too low during its final approach to the runway.
