What happened
A medical evacuation flight traveling from Dipolog Principal Airport in Zamboanga del Norte to Ninoy Aquino International Airport experienced a loss of control during its approach to Manila. While operating under instrument meteorological conditions, the aircraft was cleared by Manila Approach to descend from 9,000 feet to 5,000 feet while tracking the 170 radial at 25 DME. During this phase of flight, the aircraft disappeared from radar contact.
The wreckage was subsequently located at a private resort in Barangay Pansol, Calamba, Laguna, at coordinates 14°10’33.62” N and 121°11’34” E. The impact occurred with a heading of approximately 228°, leaving the fuselage heavily damaged by fire. The accident resulted in nine fatalities among the occupants of the plane, while two injuries were reported for individuals on the ground.
Findings
The investigation noted that the flight was operating in Instrument Meteorological Conditions (IMC) at the time of the incident. The aircraft experienced a loss of control while maneuvering for its approach to the destination airport.
