A twin-engine aircraft crashed into a mountainside near St John's Airport during its initial climb, resulting in no survivors.

What happened

During the early stages of flight following departure from St John's Airport, a twin engine airplane entered a fatal descent. While performing its initial climb, the aircraft made contact with treetops and subsequently struck the slope of Mt Picco's Ridge. The impact occurred in an area near Portugal Cove, situated approximately six kilometers west of the airfield.

The collision resulted in the total destruction of the airframe. There were 10 fatalities recorded among the occupants of the plane, with no survivors reported from the crash site.
