What happened
On the morning of the incident, a twin engine airplane departed from Goiânia-Santa Genoveva Airport at 08:10 local time. The flight was operating as a charter service destined for Ceres, transporting one pilot and nine passengers.
During the flight, the crew decided to alter the original flight plan, opting to divert to Itapaci. While attempting to land at this location, the aircraft encountered difficulties due to the lack of suitable terrain for a landing maneuver. During the final approach phase, the aircraft struck the ground, which caused the undercarriage to be torn away. Following the impact, the plane veered toward the right side of the runway area, where it struck a fence. The momentum of the aircraft caused it to perform a 180-degree turn before eventually coming to a stop.
Despite the severity of the impact, all 10 occupants were able to evacuate the aircraft without injury. The aircraft sustained damage that rendered it a total loss.
Findings
- The decision to divert to a location lacking appropriate landing terrain contributed to the accident.
- The primary cause of the damage was the impact with the ground during the final approach.
