What happened
During a night departure from Buenos Aires-Aeroparque-Jorge Newbury Airport, an engine failure occurred while the aircraft was ascending. At an altitude of approximately 500 feet, the pilot was unable to maintain control of the aircraft type following the loss of power. The plane subsequently descended into the Rio de la Plata, impacting the water a short distance from the shoreline.
Upon impact with the river, the aircraft sank and was completely destroyed. There were no survivors among the 10 fatalities recorded in the accident. The flight included several members of the Colón Theater ballet company.
Findings
The investigation determined that the primary factor leading to the loss of control was the failure of one of the engines during the early stages of the climb.
