What happened
During an outbound flight from Southend Airport, a twin engine airplane experienced a catastrophic failure shortly after departing from runway 05. The aircraft was performing an ambulance mission, having traveled from Athens with a stop in Pula, and was en route to its home base in Lelystad.
As the aircraft was in its initial climb phase, it experienced a significant roll to the left. This maneuver led to an uncontrolled descent, causing the plane to strike a grassy area located near the runway. The impact was severe enough to cause the aircraft to burst into flames upon hitting the ground.
There were four fatalities recorded in the accident, involving the two pilots and two medical staff members, specifically a doctor and a nurse.
Findings
No specific technical cause for the leftward roll or the subsequent descent was provided in the initial report.
