What happened
A twin-engine aircraft departed Contamana Airport at 11:28 local time, operating a charter service destined for Pucallpa. The flight was carrying two pilots and 11 passengers. Shortly after the departure, while the aircraft was ascending to 4,500 feet, the right engine experienced a loss of power and subsequently failed.
In response to the initial failure, the crew attempted to return to Contamana. During this process, the crew successfully transferred fuel from the left tank to the right tank, which allowed them to restart the right engine. Following this recovery, the decision was made to proceed with the flight to Pucallpa at a higher altitude of 13,500 feet.
As the aircraft approached Pucallpa, approximately 42 km from the destination, the crew began their descent. During this phase, the right engine failed for a second time, and the left engine failed shortly thereafter. The captain declared an emergency and attempted to perform an emergency landing, but the aircraft crashed into a wooded area. The accident resulted in 13 injuries and the total destruction of the twin-engine aircraft.
Findings
- The right engine suffered an initial power loss during the climb.
- Sequential failure of both engines occurred during the descent phase of the flight.
