What happened

On the morning of the accident, a twin engine airplane departed from Miami-Executive Airport in Kendall Tamiami, bound for Kennesaw-Cobb County-McCollum Airport in Georgia. During the flight, as the aircraft approached the Atlanta control area, the pilot issued an emergency declaration and requested permission to land at the closest available airfield.

Air traffic control vectored the aircraft toward Atlanta-DeKalb-Peachtree Airport. The pilot subsequently altered the flight path and performed a left-hand circuit. While on the final approach to runway 21L, the aircraft became uncontrollable. The plane subsequently crashed near Homeland Drive, an area within a residential neighborhood in Doraville, situated approximately 5 km north-northeast of the airport.

Findings

The impact resulted in the total destruction of the aircraft. There were two occupants on board, both of whom sustained injuries during the event.
