What happened
During an approach to runway 15, an aircraft was being operated by a pilot-owner accompanied by a trainee. The weather conditions at the time of the incident involved winds originating from the southwest at 20 knots, with no reported gusts.
As the aircraft approached the runway, the pilot in the left seat positioned the plane approximately 40 feet to the left of the runway centerline. The pilot failed to execute a proper flare before touchdown. Upon contacting the runway surface, the aircraft bounced into the air with the right wing in a high position, causing the plane to drift further to the left.
In an attempt to recover, the pilot in the right seat took command of the aircraft, initially attempting to lower the wing and subsequently trying to abort the landing. However, the aircraft eventually struck the ground and underwent a cartwheel motion. There were no reported fatalities or injuries in the accident.
Findings
- The pilot in the left seat was undergoing training at the time of the event.
- Failure to flare during the landing sequence led to the initial bounce and subsequent loss of control.
