No fatalities • Goiânia, Brazil • Landing (descent or approach)

A twin-engine aircraft experienced total engine failure during a short flight from Itapuranga, resulting in a crash landing in a pasture.

What happened

A flight departing from a private airfield in Itapuranga, destined for Goiânia, experienced a series of mechanical failures shortly after departure. The twin engine aircraft was transporting two pilots and seven passengers at the time of the incident.

Approximately ten minutes into the flight, while maintaining cruising altitude, the captain notified Air Traffic Control of a malfunction involving the right engine. Due to the short duration of the planned 25-minute trip, the crew elected to proceed toward the destination. However, twelve minutes after the initial failure, the left engine also ceased functioning.

Following the loss of both engines, the crew declared an emergency. Unable to reach the Goiânia Airport, the pilot attempted to perform an emergency landing in a nearby pasture. The aircraft struck the ground approximately 13 km before reaching the threshold of runway 14. While all nine people on board were rescued, the accident resulted in seven injuries, with three individuals sustaining serious wounds.

Findings

  • The aircraft suffered a sequential failure of both engines during the cruise phase of flight.

Probable cause

The aircraft experienced a total loss of power following the failure of the right engine and the subsequent failure of the left engine.
