What happened
During an approach to Mamuno Airstrip, the pilot of a twin-engine aircraft elected to perform a go-around. Following the decision to abort the landing, the landing gear was retracted. However, the aircraft continued its descent and made contact with the runway surface.
After the initial impact with the runway, the aircraft slid for several dozen meters before veering toward the left side of the airstrip. The movement caused the aircraft to exit the runway and come to a stop in a nearby grassy area. The heat generated by the high engine temperature ignited the surrounding vegetation, leading to a fire that completely destroyed the aircraft. There were no injuries reported among the occupants during the incident.
Findings
- The aircraft's descent continued into the runway surface after the undercarriage were raised during the go-around.
- High engine temperatures contributed to the ignition of the grass, resulting in the total loss of the airframe.
