What happened
On a scheduled flight from São Paulo-Congonhas Airport to Belém, an aircraft carrying two crew members and two passengers was performing a night approach to runway 06 at Belém-Val de Cans-Júlio Cezar Ribeiro Airport. During this phase of flight, the aircraft experienced a sudden flameout in one of its engines. Shortly after the initial failure, the second engine also ceased functioning.
Unable to maintain altitude or continue the approach, the crew performed an emergency ditching in the Bay of Guajará, approximately 1.2 km before reaching the runway threshold. Following the impact with the water, the aircraft sank. Naval Base personnel on duty at the time of the incident were able to rescue all four people on board. Among the occupants, one pilot sustained slight injuries, while the remaining three individuals were rescued without injury. The wreckage of the aircraft was located and retrieved 12 days after the accident.
Findings
- The aircraft suffered a total loss of engine power following a sequential failure of both engines.
