What happened
During a nighttime cargo operation, a twin engine airplane departed from Brownsville Airport bound for Springfield, Missouri. Shortly after the departure, while the aircraft was in its climbing phase, it became uncontrollable. The plane impacted the ground approximately three miles from the airfield, resulting in a post-crash fire. There was only one person on board, and the pilot was killed in the accident.
Findings
Investigation into the crash highlighted several environmental factors present at the time of the incident. The flight was operating under marginal weather conditions characterized by:
- Low cloud ceilings
- Presence of fog
- Visibility reduced to less than one mile
The official investigation concluded that the aircraft suffered an uncontrolled descent and ground collision for reasons that remained undetermined.
