What happened
During an operation conducted under challenging meteorological conditions, a twin engine airplane collided with the side of a mountain in the vicinity of Grande-Rivière-du-Nord. The impact occurred while the aircraft was navigating through an area characterized by low visibility and a low cloud ceiling.
The force of the collision caused the total destruction of the airframe. There were nine fatalities recorded among the occupants of the aircraft, with no survivors reported from the scene.
Findings
Investigations into the crash highlighted that the flight was being conducted in poor weather conditions. The primary factor contributing to the accident was controlled flight into terrain, as the aircraft struck the slope while under the control of the crew during a period of limited visibility.
