What happened
A medical transport flight departing from Bucharest-Bologna Airport toward Oradea resulted in a fatal accident in the Apuseni Mountain Range. The flight was tasked with transporting a medical team and a patient to retrieve transplant organs. While the aircraft was cruising at 6,300 feet, the crew encountered weather conditions characterized by icing. During this period, both engines suffered a loss of power and subsequently failed.
In an attempt to perform an emergency landing, the aircraft struck trees and came to rest on a snowy, forested hillside at an altitude of 1,400 meters. The impact resulted in the destruction of the twin-engine aircraft. Among the occupants, there were two fatalities and five injuries.
Findings
The flight was operating in marginal weather conditions involving icing at the time of the incident. The primary factor leading to the crash was the simultaneous failure of both engines while navigating mountainous terrain.
