What happened
During an approach to Banjarmasin-Syamsudin Noor Airport, a twin engine aircraft encountered hazardous meteorological conditions. The flight was operating in an area experiencing intense thunderstorm activity and heavy rainfall, which significantly reduced visibility for the crew.
While navigating through these difficult weather patterns, the aircraft impacted the slope of a mountain situated only a few kilometers from the destination airport. The impact resulted in a high number of casualties, with nine fatalities recorded among the occupants. Additionally, one passenger sustained serious injuries during the accident.
Findings
Investigations into the crash determined that the primary factor leading to the accident was controlled flight into terrain. The aircraft was under the control of the pilot at the time it struck the mountain slope during the approach phase.
