What happened
On the evening of June 27, 2007, a Pilatus Britten Norman Islander, registration N133RS, was involved in an accident during a flight in the Bahamas. The aircraft, operated by Golden Wings Charter, was performing a return leg from Little Whale Cay, Berry Island, back to Lynden Pindling International Airport in Nassau.
At approximately 1718 EDT, the pilot notified air traffic control that the aircraft's left engine had failed. Shortly thereafter, at 1721 EDT, the pilot communicated that the aircraft would be unable to reach runway 14. The plane subsequently impacted the ground roughly half a mile before the threshold of the runway.
At the time of the incident, weather conditions were within visual meteorological limits. The aircraft, which was owned by FYP LTP, sustained significant damage during the impact. There was only one occupant on board, the pilot, and there were no fatalities or serious injuries resulting from the crash.
Findings
Preliminary information indicates that the sequence of events began with the failure of the left engine during the approach phase of the flight.
