What happened
In the early morning hours, an aircraft departed from Madrid-Cuatro Vientos Airport, destined for Bournemouth-Hurn in Dorset, with a scheduled stopover in Burgos. During the flight, the aircraft type encountered severe weather conditions while operating under Visual Flight Rules (VFR).
While navigating through these adverse meteorological conditions, the plane impacted the slope of a mountain situated near Guadarrama, approximately 50 km northwest of its departure point. The wreckage was subsequently located in the vicinity of the Puerto de los Leones Pass. There were four fatalities among the occupants, which included the pilot and three passengers.
Findings
The investigation into the crash determined that the primary factor leading to the accident was controlled flight into terrain.
