What happened
On 10 June 2001, a Cessna 152, registration G-BNUS, was performing a private flight when it approached Little Snoring Airstrip in Norfolk. During the landing sequence on paved Runway 07, the aircraft experienced two bounces. Following these bounces, the aircraft made contact with the runway on its nose landing gear. This impact caused the nosewheel to collapse.
The pilot, who was the sole occupant of the aircraft, was wearing appropriate lap and diagonal upper torso restraints. Following the collapse, the pilot successfully shut off the fuel and electrical systems before exiting the aircraft. There were no injuries reported.
The investigation
Investigators examined the aircraft and the circumstances surrounding the landing. The investigation established that the surface wind at the time of the incident was 360°/10 kt. The damage sustained by the aircraft included impacts to the propeller, the wing tip, and the nosewheel assembly.
