What happened
During an air taxi operation, the pilot was operating an aircraft alone when the flight encountered severe meteorological challenges. While maneuvering through the area, the aircraft struck a mountain. The impact resulted in one fatality, as the pilot was the only person on board at the time of the accident.
Findings
Investigations into the crash identified several contributing factors related to the pilot's decision-making and situational awareness. The primary cause was the pilot's decision to fly into known adverse weather conditions involving cloud cover and obscured visibility.
Additional findings noted that the pilot became disoriented and inattentive during the flight. Other contributing elements included:
- Overconfidence regarding personal flying abilities
- A lack of familiarity with both the specific aircraft and the geographic region
- Deficiencies in training
- Loss of orientation due to weather-related obscuration
