What happened
On a scheduled ferry flight from Siegerland Airport to Arezzo, Tuscany, a single-engine aircraft crashed in the canton of St Gallen, Switzerland. The flight departed at 11:00 local time with the pilot serving as the sole occupant of the aircraft.
During the transit, the aircraft flew over Swiss territory where the pilot encountered marginal weather conditions. While operating within instrument meteorological conditions (IMC), the aircraft type struck a rocky, snow-covered mountain slope situated to the west of Mt Grüehorn.
Search efforts located the wreckage later that afternoon at an elevation of 1,700 metres. The impact resulted in the total destruction of the plane and one fatality.
