What happened
A charter flight originating from Porlamar, bound for Canaima, experienced a critical mechanical failure during its journey. The aircraft, carrying a total of 13 people—including two crew members and 11 passengers, all of whom were citizens of the Czech Republic—was operating at cruising altitude when the engine ceased functioning.
Following the loss of power, the flight continued for approximately 12 minutes as the crew attempted to manage the emergency. During the effort to perform an emergency landing, the single-engine aircraft impacted the ground. The impact caused the plane to come to rest in an inverted position.
While the aircraft was completely destroyed in the accident, there were no fatalities. The two crew members sustained slight injuries, but all 11 passengers were able to exit the wreckage without harm.
Findings
- The primary factor in the accident was the failure of the engine while the aircraft was at cruising altitude.
