What happened
On May 6, 2018, an aircraft departed from Kitale Airstrip (HKKT) at 16:05, heading toward Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (HKJK). The flight was carrying ten people at the time of departure. After reaching a flight level of 11,000 feet, the aircraft maintained this altitude with some minor fluctuations. During the flight, the aircraft's groundspeed and track experienced slight variations, and its height above the ground fluctuated between approximately 1,100 feet and 4,187 feet.
Radar data tracked the aircraft from its takeoff until 17:02, when the signal was lost. Shortly before the impact, the aircraft was recorded at an altitude of 11,100 feet, traveling at 159 knots on a track of 338 NV. The final radar transmission indicated an altitude of 11,200 feet and a ground speed of 156 knots. Data from the onboard ST3400 and GPS equipment corroborated these radar findings, with the GPS recording a final elevation of 3,555.57 meters.
The aircraft eventually struck bamboo-covered terrain at an elevation of 3,645 meters at coordinates 0.36’56’’S 36 42’44’’. The force of the impact caused the total destruction of the aircraft. There were 10 fatalities and no survivors.
