What happened
During a flight conducted under marginal weather conditions, the pilot of a twin engine aircraft encountered intense turbulence. This instability led to a loss of control, causing the plane to enter a steep dive. The aircraft subsequently impacted an open field situated in Mohrsville, north of Reading.
The impact resulted in the total destruction of the airframe. There were no survivors among the six fatalities recorded at the scene.
Findings
Investigations into the accident determined that the pilot attempted to continue flight under Visual Flight Rules (VFR) despite facing adverse weather. The operation was deemed to have exceeded the pilot's level of experience and ability.
It was concluded that the turbulence, which was linked to thunderstorm or cloud activity, generated air loads that surpassed the structural design limits of the aircraft. This-specific mechanical failure caused the horizontal stabilizer to buckle on both sides.
