What happened
During a flight through adverse meteorological conditions, a twin engine aircraft collided with a mountainside in the Ayacucho region. The flight was unable to reach its intended destination, prompting the immediate launch of search and rescue operations. Despite these efforts, the search was officially halted a few days after the disappearance because no evidence of the aircraft or its occupants could be located.
It was not until 28 August 1990 that the wreckage was identified. The debris was located by hikers traveling through a remote and isolated area of the mountains. No information regarding the total number of fatalities or survivors was immediately available from the initial disappearance report.
Findings
- The aircraft struck a mountain slope during its cruise phase.
