What happened
During the early stages of flight following departure from Bogotá-El Dorado Airport, the crew of a Cessna experienced a mechanical failure involving the left engine. While the aircraft was in its climbing phase, the flight crew notified air traffic control regarding the engine malfunction. In response to the emergency, controllers provided clearance for the aircraft to perform an emergency return to the airport.
As the aircraft was executing a left-hand turn to reposition for landing, it entered a stall. The aircraft subsequently struck a building that served as a car dealership. The impact resulted in a total of 13 fatalities, including all seven occupants on board the aircraft and six individuals located on the ground. Among the deceased were the Director and the Deputy Director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Colombia. Additionally, the incident left seven people on the ground with injuries.
