What happened
On a private flight departing from River Falls Airport just after 21:00 local time, a twin engine airplane was en route to New Braunfels. The aircraft was operated with one pilot and four passengers on board. During the flight, approximately one hour after takeoff, the pilot encountered adverse weather conditions and was required to change the flight path.
As the aircraft approached its destination, it began an uncontrolled descent characterized by unstable altitude, heading, and airspeed. The aircraft eventually struck the ground in a relatively flat attitude within a wooded region located in Wimberley. The impact caused the aircraft to burst into flames. The wreckage was discovered approximately 30 km north of New Braunfels Airport. The accident resulted in five fatalities, with no survivors among the occupants.
Findings
At the time of the accident, the local weather was marked by thunderstorm activity and rain, which necessitated the initial course correction by the pilot.
