What happened
A twin-engine aircraft was performing a scheduled round trip, traveling between Dar es-Salaam, Ifakara, and Mikumi. During the final stages of the flight, while the aircraft was descending through 4,000 feet toward Dar es Salaam, the right engine experienced a failure. Shortly after the initial malfunction, the left engine also ceased operation.
In response to the loss of power, the pilot initiated a descent to a lower altitude to attempt an emergency landing. The aircraft subsequently struck a banana plantation situated approximately 20 km from Dar es Salaam. While the impact resulted in the total destruction of the aircraft, all eight occupants—consisting of one pilot and seven passengers—were successfully rescued from the wreckage. Among the survivors, two passengers sustained injuries during the incident.
Findings
- The aircraft suffered a sequential failure of both engines during the approach phase.
