What happened
During a flight originating from Boston-Logan, the crew began their descent toward Gainesville Airport. At the time of arrival, the local weather was impacted by the presence of tropical storm Colin, which created marginal flying conditions. Upon touchdown on a damp runway, the aircraft traveled approximately 1,000 feet before deviating to the left of the runway centerline.
As the aircraft moved onto the unpaved surface, the nose gear and the left main landing gear collapsed. The movement ended when the plane came to a stop in a nearby grassy area. There were no fatalities among the three occupants, all of whom were able to evacuate the aircraft without injury. The aircraft sustained damage that rendered it a total loss.
Findings
- The landing occurred on a wet runway during periods of marginal weather caused by tropical storm Colin.
- The aircraft veered off the runway after traveling a distance of roughly 1,000 feet post-landing.
