What happened
During the landing phase, the flight crew of the business jet successfully touched down on the runway centerline. Shortly after touchdown, the aircraft encountered a gust of wind originating from the right side. While the crew managed to maintain the aircraft's position on the centerline following this initial disturbance, a second, more intense gust struck the plane. This subsequent wind burst pushed the aircraft toward the left side of the runway, leading to a runway excursion.
The impact of the excursion caused substantial damage to the aircraft's fuselage and the left wing. No injuries or fatalities were reported in the incident.
Findings
An analysis of weather radar data following the event revealed that a severe thunderstorm was located to the west of the airport and was moving eastward at a rapid pace. At the time of the accident, a tornado warning had been issued for the area, and a convective SIGMET was active for the airport. The pilot-in-command confirmed that all necessary weather information had been reviewed prior to departure. Furthermore, the aircraft's onboard weather radar was fully functional, and there were no reported mechanical failures or malfunctions that would have prevented the crew from operating the aircraft normally. The primary factor in the excursion was the impact of intense wind gusts associated with the approaching thunderstorm.
