What happened
A sightseeing flight departed from Nazca-María Reiche Neuman Airport carrying a total of seven people, consisting of two crew members and five passengers. As the single-engine airplane reached the rotation phase of the takeoff, the aircraft experienced mechanical issues characterized by audible unusual noises and a steady reduction in engine power.
Because the engine power decreased, the aircraft failed to achieve the required airspeed and altitude necessary for a stable climb. The pilot attempted to return to the departure airport; however, the aircraft subsequently experienced a loss of aerodynamic lift. This led to a violent ground impact. The force of the collision resulted in a fire that consumed a significant portion of the airframe. The accident resulted in seven fatalities and multiple serious injuries among the occupants.
Findings
- The aircraft suffered from progressive engine power loss during the takeoff roll.
- The loss of engine performance prevented the aircraft from reaching safe takeoff parameters.
- The subsequent loss of lift led to the fatal impact.
