What happened
A training flight originated from Zagreb Airport, bound for Zadar Airport. During the descent toward the destination, the aircraft entered weather conditions characterized by marginal visibility and the presence of icing. While flying through clouds at an altitude of approximately 6,500 feet, the aircraft experienced a loss of altitude.
The flight ended when the aircraft struck the terrain within the Velebit Mountain Range. The impact forces were severe enough to result in the total destruction of the aircraft. There were four fatalities among the occupants of the flight.
Findings
Investigations into the accident highlighted that the crew encountered icing conditions during the descent phase. The presence of these atmospheric conditions, combined with the flight being conducted within clouds, preceded the loss of altitude and the subsequent impact with the mountainside.
