What happened
On a flight from Nuquí Airport to Quibdó, a twin engine airplane departed at 12:56 local time. The flight was operated with a crew consisting of one pilot and two passengers. Shortly after departing, the pilot communicated with air traffic control, reporting an altitude of 1,500 feet and providing an estimated arrival time for Quibdó-El Caraño Airport of 13:15 local time.
Approximately nine minutes after the takeoff, the aircraft was operating within instrument meteorological conditions (IMC). During this phase of flight, the plane struck trees and crashed into a thick forest located near the Serranía del Baudó region, roughly 50 km north of the departure point. Following the accident, search and rescue efforts were launched, though the wreckage was not located until five days after the initial disappearance.
Findings
The impact of the crash resulted in the total destruction of the aircraft. Among the occupants, the pilot was killed in the accident. The two passengers, an 18-year-old woman and an 8-month-old infant, were rescued from the site with minor injuries.
