What happened
On July 23, 2022, a Cessna T210, registration N210DE, was conducting a private international flight from Opa-Locka Executive Airport (KOPF) in Florida to Puerto Plata International Airport (MDPP) "Gregorio Luperón" in the Dominican Republic. While approximately two miles from the destination airport, the aircraft descended into flat, uneven terrain. The impact with the ground resulted in the total destruction of the aircraft.
The investigation
The Dominican Republic's Aviation Accident Investigation Commission (CIAA) was notified of the accident on the day of the occurrence and deployed an investigation team to the site the following day. The investigation was structured to evaluate operational aspects, human performance, and airworthiness. The commission conducted its inquiry in accordance with Annex 1 and ICAO documents to determine the circumstances surrounding the event.
Findings
- The impact with the terrain caused two fatalities, involving both the pilot and one passenger.
- The aircraft sustained substantial damage, resulting in its destruction.
- The crash occurred in an area characterized by flat but irregular terrain.
