What happened
On a scheduled cargo mission, a Curtiss C-46 departed from Santa Marta Airport at 12:11 local time, destined for Pointe-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe. The aircraft was transporting approximately 5 tons of meat as its primary payload.
During the flight, while maintaining an altitude of 7,000 feet, the crew established communication with air traffic control to provide an estimated arrival time of 17:55 local time. Shortly after this transmission, all radio contact with the aircraft was lost.
Following the loss of communication, a search was initiated, but the plane crashed into the sea under undetermined conditions. Despite search efforts, there was no recovery of the wreckage or any evidence regarding the fate of the four crew members.
Findings
No official investigation could be completed because the aircraft and its occupants remain missing, leaving the specific reason for the crash in the ocean unknown.
