What happened
During a nighttime operation, an unidentified aircraft performed a belly landing in an open field located in the vicinity of Palenque Airport. The aircraft subsequently came to a rest in the field following the crash landing. Upon arrival at the scene, law enforcement officials discovered that the aircraft was abandoned, as no occupants were located near the wreckage.
During the inspection of the downed aircraft, authorities recovered 3 tons of cocaine from the interior of the plane. The impact of the landing resulted in the aircraft being considered a total loss.
Findings
While the specific circumstances surrounding the descent and landing remain unconfirmed, the presence of a massive quantity of narcotics on board suggests the flight was involved in illicit transport. The aircraft sustained enough damage during the landing to be written off.
