What happened
A sightseeing flight departing from the Hamburg-Norderelbe Seaplane Base ended in a fatal accident shortly after takeoff. The aircraft, operated by Himmelsschreiber Azur GmbH, was conducting a tour over the city of Hamburg when the engine experienced a loss of power and ignited.
Within approximately two minutes of leaving the airfield, the aircraft began to lose altitude. In an attempt to manage the emergency, the pilot attempted an emergency landing. During the descent, the aircraft struck a wagon and crashed onto a railway road within a marshalling yard, situated roughly 2 km south of the departure location. The impact was followed by a significant fire that consumed the wreckage.
Findings
The accident resulted in five fatalities, including the pilot who succumbed to injuries the day after the crash. Two other individuals, including a passenger, sustained serious injuries. The engine failure and subsequent fire were the primary factors leading to the loss of control and the destruction of the aircraft.
