What happened

On the evening of 15 July 2016, a de Havilland Canada DHC-2 Beaver departed from the Telegraph Creek Water Aerodrome (CAH9) in British Columbia. The flight was intended to be a visual flight rules (VFR) round-trip, with the destination being Mowdade Lake. The aircraft was operated by a single pilot.

After the aircraft failed to reach its destination and did not return to its point of origin, search operations were launched. On the following day, at roughly 2000 PDT, the wreckage was discovered in a ravine situated near the headwaters of Elwyn Creek, BC, at an altitude of approximately 5,000 feet.

Upon discovery, it was determined that the aircraft had been destroyed by fire. The pilot sustained fatal injuries in the accident.
