On a flight departing from Kakabikitchen Lake, Ontario, a de Havilland DHC-2 Beaver seaplane, registered as C-FNFO, began a visual flight rules journey toward Aremis Lake. The aircraft was operated by a single pilot.

During the initial stages of the flight, the aircraft was seen traveling north at a very low altitude over the waters of Sabaskong Bay. At this time, the engine was running at a high power setting. As the plane attempted to climb and initiated a left bank, the right wing made contact with one of two electrical wires stretched across a channel between two islands.

The impact caused the total destruction of the aircraft. The pilot sustained fatal injuries in the accident.
