What happened

An incident occurred at Manila-Ninoy Aquino Airport involving two aircraft during the departure phase of a flight. A DHC-6 Twin Otter, arriving from El Nido Palawan, was directed by ground control to taxi toward its parking area via taxiway F1. At the same time, a Philippine Airlines Boeing 737-3Y0, operating flight PR1370 from Manila to Bacolod, was performing a takeoff from runway 13. Due to the active takeoff, the Twin Otter crew was ordered to remain on taxiway F1.

However, the crew of the Twin Otter proceeded to cross the active runway. This resulted in a collision with the departing Boeing 737. The impact caused the Twin Otter to be dragged for approximately 130 metres along the ground. The collision resulted in the destruction of the Twin Otter and minor damage to the nose of the Boeing 737. Both pilots involved in the accident sustained two injuries.

  • The collision was triggered by a misinterpretation of taxi instructions by the Twin Otter crew, leading them to enter the runway while another aircraft was taking off.

Probable cause
