During the night descent, the aircraft collided with the side of Mt Lambir, which has an elevation of 500 metres. The impact occurred approximately 13.7 km from the departure airport. Search efforts located the wreckage the following morning at 07:10 local time. The accident resulted in 10 fatalities, with no survivors among the occupants.
