What happened
During a flight originating from Kadhdhoo Airport, the crew began their approach toward Male International Airport. The aircraft, a unspecified aircraft type, touched down on runway 36 at a speed of 95 knots, approximately 600 meters beyond the runway threshold.
Upon landing, the aircraft began to drift left of the runway centerline. In an attempt to correct this deviation, the copilot, who was acting as the pilot-in-command, applied a correction that caused the plane to veer toward the right side of the runway. Although the captain attempted to regain control of the aircraft, the maneuver was unsuccessful. The aircraft subsequently exited the runway, collided with a concrete wall, and ended up in the sea.
All eight occupants sustained injuries during the accident, and the aircraft was completely destroyed.
Findings
- The accident was precipitated by an overcorrection during the landing roll, which caused the aircraft to deviate from the runway centerline and eventually strike a perimeter structure.
