What happened
During the Battle of Britain air display held at Biggin Hill Airport, an aircraft was performing maneuvers as part of the scheduled event. After departing from runway 21, the pilot attempted a turn intended to pass over the airfield. During this maneuver, the aircraft's nose pitched downward, leading to a high-impact crash approximately 500 yards from the airport perimeter. The impact resulted in a large fire at the site of the wreckage.
There were seven fatalities recorded in the accident, as all occupants on board perished. The flight was being operated as part of the public airshow festivities.
Findings
Official investigations into the accident concluded that the precise reason for the loss of control could not be established. Technical inspections revealed that the engines were functioning correctly and the aircraft remained structurally intact until it struck the ground.
