What happened
During a flight originating in Cáceres with a destination of Principe da Beira, the crew experienced several technical difficulties. These complications led to significant navigational deviations, causing the aircraft to enter Bolivian airspace over the center of the country. Due to the ongoing issues, the pilot initiated an emergency descent.
The aircraft performed a belly landing within a marshy area situated in the Trinidad region. While the impact resulted in the aircraft being damaged beyond repair and subsequently abandoned at the site, there were no fatalities among the crew. All four crew members were successfully recovered from the scene by personnel operating a Brazilian Air Force Catalina.
Findings
Investigations into the incident identified that the primary factor leading to the flight path deviation was a navigational error occurring during the period of technical malfunction.
